I Love to Read: World’s top creator and bestselling author release high-stakes thriller

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — YouTube creator MrBeast and bestselling author James Patterson have teamed up for a new thriller that combines high-stakes competition with a fight for humanity’s survival.

“The Most Dangerous Games” launches globally Sept. 1, 2026.

The novel follows 100 contestants competing in a secretive competition with a $1 billion prize. As the games unfold, the stakes go beyond winning, with the fate of humanity tied to the outcome.

The book brings together the world of MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, and Patterson’s decades of experience writing bestselling thrillers.

Donaldson is known for large-scale challenges, elaborate competitions and philanthropy campaigns. He also founded Beast Industries and operates one of the most-subscribed individual channels on YouTube.

Patterson is the author of hundreds of books and has received numerous honors, including an Edgar Award, 10 Emmy Awards, the Literarian Award and the National Humanities Medal.

The two discussed the collaboration during a virtual event Aug. 13, highlighting how Donaldson’s experience with competition and entertainment influenced the story while Patterson brought his thriller-writing expertise to the project.

HarperCollins acquired the rights to the book and is distributing it worldwide.
