Rangers transfer target last summer becomes free agent year later

Conor Coady has left Wrexham to become a free agent a year on from being a Rangers transfer target.

The experienced centre-back, a Leicester City player at the time, was a key target of then Ibrox boss Russell Martin last summer as he looked to reshape his squad.

He would move to Hollywood-owned Wrexham instead as he stayed in the English Championship.

The move didn't exactly work out well though and he made just six appearances for Phil Parkinson's side, before joining Charlton Athletic on loan in January.

Having cost the EFL Championship side £2million last summer, Coady has now left the club to become a free agent a year later.

That's despite signing a two-year contract at the time.

Meanwhile, Wrexham are set replace the England cap in their squad with former Rangers loanee Joe Worrall, who is moving from Burnley.
