It’s shaping up to be a banner year for gamers as LEGO and Sony are teaming up to release an official LEGO 72306 Playstation set! Revealed during the State of Play stream and on the Playstation blog.

This 1,911-piece LEGO model lets you build a near 1:1 replica of Sony’s iconic Playstation 1, the console that forever changed the gaming landscape when it was first released in 1994.

72306 Playstation will be released worldwide on 1 October 2026 (via LEGO Insiders Early Access), and will be available exclusively from LEGO.com, direct.playstation.com or your local LEGO Store ahead of a 4 October 2026 general release.

The LEGO Playstation model Mmeasures over 2.5 in. (6 cm) high, 10.5 in. (26 cm) wide and 7.5 in. (19 cm) deep, and is a near 1:1 scale replica of the original Playstation.

LEGO have gone to great lengths to capture all your favourite features from the Playstation such as plugging the brick-built controller into the console to pressing the tactile, functional Open and Power buttons.

What’s also impressive is how well the controller looks. Sorry, no Dual Shock controller with analog sticks!

But that’s not all. You can also pop open the console to discover mini dioramas inside celebrating two iconic Playstation classics – Gran Turismo, and Ape Escape.

The Gran Turismo diorama contains a mini track with tiny cars, and Ape Escape has the game’s iconic red or blue monkey helmets. Both dioramas can be hidden inside the console, or pulled out to be displayed on their own.

If you were gaming in the 90s on the Playstation, you’ll spot something a little quirk and impossibility with this model. While LEGO have referenced Ape Escape in the model, you can’t actually play it with a regular PS1 controller, as you need a Dual Shock controller for Ape Escape!

I think this looks fantastic and as someone who spent countless hours on the Playstation (mostly playing JRPGs like Final Fantasy & Dragon Quest, Crash Bandicoot or Metal Gear Solid), I cannot wait to get my hands on this.

Sony collaborating with LEGO also opens up an entire world of possibilities, and I hope that some of their first-party titles, or best-known games also eventually make it as LEGO sets or models. My wishlists include a full Final Fantasy theme, an Icons Metal Gear Solid set, or a Crash Bandicoot display model, and a proper polygonal Tomb Raider Lara Croft statue.

All in all. If you’re a gamer, I think it’s absolutely incredible where we have LEGO versions of 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System, 72046 Game Boy, 10306 Atari 2600 and 40926 SEGA Genesis Console. And now, a LEGO Playstation.

72306 Playstation will be released worldwide on 1 October 2026 and will be available exclusively from LEGO.com or your local LEGO Store.

What do you think of the LEGO Sony Playstation? What other games from Sony’s stable would you like to see LEGO take on next?
